We don’t often find W124 coupes with less than six figure mileages these days, for the simple reason that they are such capable and usable cars that owners generally can’t resist driving them! Even though they are extremely durable and withstand high mileages like few other cars, there is no mistaking the crispness and sharpness of a pampered low mileage example.
This one is gorgeous in its metallic blue paintwork with matching blue leather interior, a very unusual and stunning combination. It is in beautiful condition throughout, with a very highly optioned specification. It looks and feels better than most eight year old cars rather than the 28 year old it actually is.
It was supplied new by The Mercedes-Benz dealer in Chiba near Tokyo, Japan in September 1994 to its first owner. We don’t know much about the owner except that they kept it until 2008 and covered around 106,000 Km in that time. It would have been subjected to the fanatical inspection and maintenance regime that is mandatory in Japan, so will have left that country in perfect mechanical and structural condition.
It was brought to the UK in July 2008 by a specialist car importer, who changed the odometer for one showing miles and adjusted to the correct figure (the BIMTA certificate of mileage verification is on file). It was initially registered in the importer’s company name, then he kept it himself for almost a year, and we purchased it from him and supplied it to a gentleman in Mold, Clwyd in September 2009. This owner covered around 6,000 miles in three years, and sold the car back to us in August 2012. We then supplied it to its latest owner, a hotelier in Chester. Ten years and 16,000 miles later he has now retired and sold the hotel, so no longer has adequate garaging. We needed no persuading to buy it back from him, so this beautiful car is once more available to a new owner.
Unusually for an ex-Japanese market car the service history came with it, and we have supplemented the Japanese book pack with a UK handbook and continuation service book. The records show that it was serviced six times in Japan before being exported. Since coming to the UK it has been serviced once by an independent MB specialist in Stoke-on-Trent, twice by Mercedes-Benz of Chester, ten times by an independent MB specialist in Chester and three times by ourselves. It has only covered 2,000 miles since its last service but we will service it before it leaves us, so it will be ready for a further 9,000 miles before any scheduled attention is due. As well as the above documentation we also have on file many service invoices and every MOT certificate since the car was imported to the UK.
This rare gem will suit the avid collector perfectly, and should become ever more sought-after as the years go by, due to its highly optioned specification and superb condition. The purchaser of this beautiful car will have a possession of lasting quality and increasing value, which will be a delight to own and drive for many years to come.
We have carried out a comprehensive mechanical check of the car in our own workshop. Any faults found have been remedied, and any required maintenance has been carried out (see above). Invoices for this work will be supplied with the car, along with our own warranty, details of which can be supplied on request.
